Imagination of Japan
The “YOKAI Immersive Experience Exhibition” is the world's first immersive experience-type digital art museum where visitors can immerse themselves in the art of yokai, the pride of Japan, such as “Hyakki Yagyo Emaki”, “Hyakumonogatari”, “Oni”, “Tengu”, “Kappa” and “ Tsukumogami” painted by various artists in the Edo and Meiji periods using cutting-edge video technology and 3D modeling.
Japanese yokai, born from the rich imagination of ancient Japanese mythology and folklore, have been loved by people around the world throughout the ages. The humorous figures depicted in yokai paintings and caricatures are dynamically brought to life using state-of-the-art digital technologies such as 3DCG, projection mapping, and holographic screens, while three-dimensional modeling reproduces the realistic world of yokai.
In addition, with the cooperation of Japan's first antiquarian book museum, the Nishio City Iwase Bunko Library, and the Yokai Art Museum on Shodoshima Island, the exhibition will also provide explanations of rare yokai paintings, caricatures, and yokai art, unraveling the culture and history of yokai that are connected to contemporary pop culture.
